Food and Human Nutrition, and Chemistry: To understand the functions of various
nutrients in our body, one needs to learn the elements contained in carbohydrates,
proteins, and minerals. This involves the application of Chemistry. On the other
hand, through Chemistry, one learns how to make bleaches and detergents which are
used as cleaning agents in cleaning kitchen cloths and equipment.

Food and Human Nutrition, and Biology: In Biology people learn the role of
nutrients in the body and the effects of their defi ciency. They also learn about food
preservation to prevent spoilage and diseases. Such knowledge is applied during
food preparation and cooking in Food and Human Nutrition.

Food and Human Nutrition, and Economics: Economic factors such as food prices
and income infl uence people’s food choices. Food budgeting is essential before
preparing food. The application of knowledge from Economics is required in food
budgeting, especially when planning meals because one should consider the amount
of money available before purchasing food items. Knowledge of Economics enables
an individual to understand that food preparation should always match with the
money available. Economics is also useful in managing time, money and energy
during planning, preparing, cooking and serving food, as well as when buying food
            from the market.

Food and Human Nutrition, and Agriculture: Food and Human Nutrition also relate to
Agriculture since foods for human consumption are obtained from the farm. Growing
foods requires an individual to know something about agriculture. Such foods involve
fruits and vegetables, which are used in making beverages and appetizers. Likewise,
producing animal-based food products, such as milk, fi sh, eggs and meat requires the
            knowledge of Agriculture.
