Falling: A poor arrangement of kitchen equipment; wet walkways due to oil or water
spills on the fl oor’s surface; poor disposal of kitchen refuse like peelings of bananas,
tomatoes and fruits can cause falling in the kitchen. In addition, inappropriate
footwear, such as high-heeled shoes in the kitchen, can cause someone to fall. This
may lead to fractures. To prevent falling, avoid storing frequently used items such

as pots and pans on high shelves or cabinets. Always keep the kitchen fl oor tidy;
provide adequate lighting and wear appropriate shoes in the kitchen.
Electric shocks: These accidents happen in the kitchen when handling electric
appliances with wet hands or when touching electric wire with an electrical current
with bare feet or wet hands. If an electric shock occurs, switch off the electrical
current or main switch. Use a poor conductor of electricity such as a wood stick to
move a victim from the electricity; Then, seek medical assistance. Never use wet
materials to hold the victim.
To prevent an electric shock, never touch electrical instruments such as switches
and sockets with wet hands as they can cause an accident. Switch off all electrical
appliances that are not in use. Electrical wires should be well insulated. Defective
appliances should be repaired or replaced.
