Disadvantages of the roasting method of cooking
(i) Roasting requires a longer cooking time; roasting is generally a slower
cooking method than in the case with other techniques such as frying or
grilling. Depending on the size and type of food being roasted, it may take
more time to achieve the desired results.
(ii) Achieving even cooking with roasting can be a challenge, particularly when
roasting large or irregularly shaped pieces of vegetables. Using a roasting
rack or turning the food during cooking can address this problem.
(iii) Browning variability: While browning is one of the appealing aspects
of roasting, it can also vary based on factors such as the food’s moisture
content, sugar content, and proximity to the heat source. Ensuring consistent
browning requires attention and adjustments during cooking.
(iv) Roasting large quantities of food or multiple dishes simultaneously may
require ample oven space. A limited oven capacity can be a disadvantage
when preparing meals for a large number of people.
(v) Some delicate foods, such as soft or thinly sliced vegetables, may not be
well-suited for roasting, as they can become overcooked or lose their shape.
