Worked buttonholes: The worked buttonhole can be worked by hand or machine. These
types of buttonholes are worked on the right side of the garment. They are supposed to
be made on the overlap section of the garment in line with the buttons on the underlap.
Buttonholes with two square ends are cut in a vertical direction where there is no strain
on a buttonhole. The button will remain at the centre of the buttonhole when fastened.
It is commonly sewn on loose fitting garments such as shirts and blouses. A buttonhole
with one round end and one square end is used whenever there is sufficient strain to
pull the button to one end of the buttonhole. A buttonhole with two round ends is rarely
used unless it is likely to be strained at both ends of the buttonhole. Refer to Figure
6.8, which shows the shapes of worked buttonholes.
