needle between the two layers of
fabric and snip.
Activity 6.9
1. Search information from reliable
sources such as a video clip showing
how metal loop is attached on a
piece of fabric.
2. Attach a metal loop on a piece of
fabric.
Metal bars: Metal bars or straight eyes
are attached to the opening when edges
overlap. A metal bar is fixed to the right
side of the under wrap. No stitch support
is required as on the metal loops when
the loop is attached in position. The bars
are attached with buttonholes or overcast
stitches.
Procedure for attaching metal bar on a
piece of fabric
(i) Overlap the edges;
(ii) Mark the position of the eye by
placing it under the bend of the
hook;

(iii) Stitch the bar in place with buttonhole
or overcast stitches around each
loop.
(iv) Secure the thread properly.

bar on a double piece of fabric
2. Attach a metal bar to a double piece
of fabric.
Worked bars or loops: Worked bar or
loop is used when a more inconspicuous
fastening is needed. The strands are
usually worked in thread that matches
the garment and then buttonhole stitched.
Worked bars are used to the opening when
edges overlap or where edges meet. On
overlapped fastenings, the bar should lie
almost straight on the fabric. On meeting
edges, the strands may be long enough to
form a shallow loop.
