               Activity 2.4

              Visit nearby farmers and agro-dealers in your area to observe and inquire about:
              1. The different maize varieties currently available in the market and the ones
                  recommended for your area;

              2. Different sowing methods used by farmers; then, choose two methods and
                  apply them to sow maize seed in a selected plot of your school farm;

              3. Observe and compare results between the two applied methods: on the
                  germination rate, plant spacing, seed distribution, sowing depth, emergence
                  time, evenness of plant growth and extent of weed growth, between the two
                  methods; then,
              4. Summarise your observations and lessons learnt from this activity in your
                  portfolio.

              Exercise 2.1
              1. You have been tasked to prepare a piece of land for maize production. Outline
                  the step-by-step processes from clearing the land to final seedbed preparation.

              2. A farmer wants to plant maize, but the soil is compacted and hard. Suggest
                  two methods of land preparation that would improve soil structure and ensure
                  good maize growth.
