Activity 4.3
1. Consult a nearby agricultural seed dealer/extension worker or visit a library/
e-library to perform the following tasks:
(a) Study different varieties of rice commonly found in Tanzania and those
which are grown in your area. Categorise them into traditional and
improved rice varieties.
(b) Find out rice varieties that are mostly preferred by consumers in your
area. Explain the reasons behind their preference, and
(c) Inquire on a series of activities that are involved in paddy production
from selection of seed variety to the planting stage.
2. Based on the knowledge and skills you have learnt in class and from the field:
(a) Prepare a paddy nursery in your school farm.
(b) Organise the required tools and materials for planting.
(c) Divide the field into three plots. In one plot, sow rice by broadcasting, in
the second plot, in rows and the third plot, by transplanting.
