              3. Prepare a brief report on the common types of peas, their uses, in your
community and the benefits of growing them.

              Exercise 6.1

              1. At your local market, you find one seller with green peas and another with
dry peas. A nearby farmer asks you which type is better to grow. What advice
                  would you give?

              2. Your school garden has poor soil, and there is no money for fertilisers. Explain
how growing common peas can help improve the soil.

              3. A youth group in your village aims to earn money and provide food for their
families. Explain how the production of common peas can support them in
                  achieving this goal.

Principles and practices of common pea production

Production of common peas is guided by certain principles and practices of
which producers should adhere to for success. The principles help people make
decisions at every stage of production, from planning to marketing. When
followed properly, they can result to a healthy plants, better yield/harvests and
income. Hence, proper planning and good farm management are important
practices during the entire production cycle.
A good production process starts with right selection of a growing area. The land
must be well prepared before sowing. It is also important to select the best pea
variety and sow it at the right time. After sowing, farmers must manage water
and nutrients carefully to help plant growth. Weeds, pests, and diseases must be
controlled to protect the crop and reduce losses. Harvesting should be done at
the right time, and the peas must be handled carefully after harvest to maintain
quality. Another important part of pea production is post-harvest processing and
