briefly describe the scenario and the objectives of the task.
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
2. Useful life of the buildings: Guide the students to search the
concept of useful life in accounting, focusing on factors that
affect the useful life of an asset. Consider different uses, wear and
tear, and maintenance practices for buildings used as classrooms
versus administration blocks, and provide a detailed explanation
of whether or not the useful lives of the two buildings would be the
same, and justify your reasoning with examples and references to
accounting principles.
3. Appropriate depreciation methods: Emphasise the students to
review the different depreciation methods covered in your course,
such as straight-line, reducing balance, and units of production.
Assess which method best matches the usage patterns and wear
and tear for a classroom building and an administration block, and
justify their choice of depreciation method for each building with
logical reasoning and examples.
4. Disposal of the buildings: Guide the students to investigate the
common methods for disposing of buildings in the public sector or
educational institutions, discuss options such as selling, demolition,
repurposing, or donating the buildings and explain the advantages
and disadvantages of each disposal method and provide examples
or case studies if available.
Conclude by guiding the students to summarise their findings and
provide any final thoughts or recommendations. Also, guide them to
present their findings in brief, 5 to 10 minutes presentation to the class.
Also, make them engage in discussions with their peers to deepen their
understanding.
