(i) Choose the right pencil. Use different types of pencils like HB,
2B, and 4B. HB pencils are good for light lines, while 2B and
4B are better for dark lines;
(ii) Begin by drawing the guide lines. Draw guide lines to get the

correct proportions of your drawing. These lines should be
light so that they can be easily erased later;
(iii) Basic lines. Use basic lines to create the shape of the object
you are drawing. For example, if you are drawing a face, start
with a circle for the head and horizontal and vertical lines for
the eyes, nose and mouth;
(iv) Add details. Gradually add more details using lines. This can
include lines for hair, clothing or other shapes;
(v) Add shading. Use shading lines to give depth and realism to
your drawing. You can use a cotton swab to blend the lines
and create smooth shading; and
(vi) Adjust and finish. Carefully review your drawing and make any
necessary adjustments. This will include erasing all unwanted
marks.
Activity 3
(a) Sketch a desk, table, and chair without lifting your pencil
from the paper. Focus on the edges and shapes of the
subject; and
(b) Display those drawings in your class for discussion.
