Movement of sound in matter

               Activity 8

          FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Investigating how sound transfers in water
Materials: Bucket, water, bell or any object that can make a
               ringing sound

               Procedure
               1. Take a bucket and fill it with water.

               2. Hold a bell in one hand and dip it in water.

               3. Keep one of your ears gently on the surface of water, but
don’t let water get into your ear.

               4. Ring the bell inside water as shown in Figure 15.

               5. What do you hear and see? Write the results.

Figure 15: Sound travel in water

Sound travels through water just like it does in air, however it
travels faster in water. When you ring the bell inside the water,

you hear sound clearly. The waves demonstrate how sound
              travels through water.
