             (viii)  Marketing: Food products can be marketed at farm gate prices on the
                    field, in a local market within the production area, or at distant markets.
                    Marketing of the produce should be considered during planning, even
                    before starting to produce the crop. To maximise profit, it is advisable to
                    market the produce at its highest demand.

             Activity 1.11
             1.  Visit some nearby crop fields and gardens, food markets, and food processing
                 industries to study various post-harvesting handling practices done to the
                 following categories of crops:
                 (a) Roots and tuber crops;
                 (b) Fruits and vegetable crops; and
                 (c) Cereal and pulse crops.
             2.  Participate in carrying out some of these practices.
             3.  Select one crop produce and design its suitable packaging.
             4.  Summarise your observation in your portfolio and share it in class.



            Farm record keeping

            Farm record keeping is a crucial component of farm management. It involves
            putting down facts, data or information about the day-to-day activities of a farm.
            It can also be defined as systematically documenting various farm activities over
            time.  The  successful  management  of  a  farm  requires  an  accurate,  up-to-date
            record. A complete farm record must include all daily activities and transactions.
            The farm records guide the farmer in making marketing, pricing and development
            policies based on costs and returns obtained from farm records.


             Activity 1.12

            Visit a school farm or some nearby commercial  crop farm and perform the
            following task:

               (a)  Observe types of documents used in farm record-keeping
               (b)  Inquire on the types of information found on the documents and the
                   importance of each; then
               (c)  Prepare a report and present it in class.
