Advanced Computer Networks
Introduction
The modern ways of data communication are highly dependent on the presence
of advanced computer networks. Networked computers are able to share or
transmit information from one computer to another computer systems located
anywhere in the world. This system of networked computers transfers data in the
form of signals conveyed through wired media like optical fibres or via wireless
transmission such as satellites. In this chapter, you will learn concept of Network
communication models, Network models, and Network security principles and
protocols in computer networks. Also, you will learn Public switches Telephone
Network (PSTN) and Mobile telephone system. The competencies developed
will enable you to design and maintain computer networks effectively and
productively.

Scenario 3.1: Sending a letter to a friend
Imagine you want to send a letter to a friend in another region. The entire process
involves several steps, each with specific tasks to ensure the letter reaches its
destination safely and correctly.
Question:
(a) When you write the letter and choose the language and format, how does
this reflect to communication models?
(b) Briefly explain, what do you do before you send the letter to your friends?
(c) Describe the mechanism you undertake in preparing and sending letter to
a friend, basing on above scenario.
