Preface

This textbook Theatre Arts has been specifically written for Form Five Students
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
in the United Republic of Tanzania. This book has been prepared according
to the Theatre Arts syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and
Technology in 2023. Some of the themes in this book have been taken from the
previous books for Theatre Arts Form Four published in 2023 in accordance with
the 2008 syllabus.

The book consists of six chapters, namely Major trends in theatre arts, Scriptwriting,
Performing spaces, Approaching performances, Creative use of language in
theatre arts and Rights and responsibilities of an artist. Each chapter contains
texts, illustrations, activities and exercises. Therefore, you are encouraged to do
all activities and exercises found in this textbook as well as other assignments
that your teacher will provide. You are also required to prepare a portfolio for
keeping records of activities performed in different lessons. This will enhance
your understanding and development of the intended competencies for this level.
