Decimals are obtained by dividing the numerator by the
denominator of a fraction.
Example 1
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Convert 6 into decimals.
10
Steps Solution
1. Divide the numerator by the denominator: ÷6 10,
it is not sufficient. Write 0 above the digit 6 in the 0.6
answer position, then put a decimal point. 10 6
2. Multiply: × 0 10 0.Write 0 below 6 then subtract: −0
=
6 – =0 6. 60
3. Write zero in front of 6 to make it 60, then divide: −60
÷60 =10 6. Write 6 in the answer position after 0
the decimal point.
4. Multiply: 6 10 60.Write 60 below 60 then
×
=
subtract: 60 60 0.
=
Therefore, 6 = 0.6.
