Exercise 2
1. Convert the following measurements into kilometres:
(a) 9000 m (b) 15000 m (c) 6000 m (d) 9750 m
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
2. Convert the following measurements into metres:
(a) 2000 cm (b) 150 cm (c) 325 cm (d) 2025 cm
3. Convert the following measurements into centimetres:
(a) 40 mm (b) 100 mm (c) 245 mm (d) 550 mm
Addition of measurements of length
Measurements of the same unit can be added. Mixed
measurements are added after converting them into a common
unit using the relationship between the given units.
Example 1
+ 8 km 3 hm = 6 km 5 hm
Solution Steps
km hm 1. Add hm: 3 hm + = 5 hm 8 hm.
8 3 Write 8 in the hm column.
+ 6 5
8
km hm 2. Add km: 8 km + = 6 km 14 km.
8 3 Write 14 in the km column.
+ 6 5
14 8
Therefore, the answer is 14 km 8 hm.
