Types of combustion
There are various types of combustion, including complete
combustion and incomplete combustion.
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Complete combustion
Complete combustion occurs when fuel burns with sufficient
oxygen gas, completely consuming the fuel. The fuel buns
clearly with a bright flame.
Experiment 2: Investigating complete combustion
Aim: To demonstrate complete combustion
Materials: Wood, dry leaves or pieces of paper, a fire source,
and an open environment
Caution: Take precautions when conducting this experiment
to avoid burning your body parts or damaging the
surrounding environment.
Procedure
1. Arrange the wood in an open prepared space.
2. Ignite the wood using dry leaves or pieces of paper.
3. Allow the wood to burn completely.
4. Observe what has happened after the wood has burnt?
Results
The experiment was conducted in an open space to ensure
there was enough oxygen for the wood to burn completely.
When the firewood was ignited using dry leaves or pieces of
paper, it caught fire and began to burn. As the wood continued
to burn, it produced a bright flame. After the firewood burned
