              (b)

              Composing simple rhythms
In composing a simple rhythm, you can start by writing a four-bar rhythm divided
into two parts, namely “A” and “B”. Part A consists of the first two bars and part
“B” consists of the last two bars. The following are steps that can be followed in
              composing a simple rhythm:
              (a) Write the time signature you would like to use for your rhythm; for
                  example, or
              (b) Compose a simple rhythmic idea in one bar. This musical idea is also called
motif. A motif keeps repeating in different ways in a piece of music without
changing its originality. Figure 2.47 shows an example of a simple rhythmic
                  motif.
