Preface

This textbook, Business Studies for Advanced Secondary Schools, is written specifically
for Form Five students in the United Republic of Tanzania. It is prepared in accordance
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
with the 2023 Business Studies Syllabus for Advanced Secondary Education Form V-VI,
issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). It contains
some contents from Commerce for Secondary Schools books for Form Three and Four
published in 2023.

The book consists of six chapters; namely, Business environment, Business units,
Financing medium-sized businesses, Business regulatory environment in Tanzania,
Business registration in Tanzania, and Business planning. Each chapter contains text,

illustrations, activities, exercises, and revision exercises. You are encouraged to do all
activities and exercises. You are also required to prepare a portfolio for keeping records
of activities performed in different lessons. Doing so will enable you to develop the
intended competencies.
