Singing in two-part harmony
Singing in two-part harmony involves two singers or two groups
singing different sounds at the same time. These two voices are sung
together while maintaining harmony. Singing in two-part harmony

requires great attention and enough skill. Two singers singing in
two-part harmony must work together equally. At this stage, you will
learn the second voice (alto) to master singing in two-part harmony.
The second voice contributes to bringing a harmonious balance
when singing. The second voice is lower than the first voice. When
singing in two-part harmony, the singer must consider correct diction
and tone to make the song attractive to the audience.
Activity 3
(a) Visit any event in your community that involves singing,
or search for recorded events online and identify singing
in two-part harmony;
(b) Choose any song and sing it in the first voice (soprano);
then;
(c) Sing the same song in the second voice (alto)
Importance of singing in two-part harmony
Singing in two-part harmony is an important aspect of singing that
helps improve singing skills. The following are the benefits of singing
in two-part harmony:
(a) Making a song so interesting. When two voices are combined,
they create a more attractive and pleasing sound. This
combination helps convey different emotions like joy or peace;
