                     Activity 1


                            Follow these steps to draw the Cardinal Directions:
        FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
              (a) Go outside the classroom in the morning;

              (b) draw a circle where you are standing;

              (c) identify the direction of the sunrise and face that side;

              (d) walk three steps forward while facing the sunrise, stop and
                  write the word East (E);

              (e) go back to the circle, then walk three steps backwards while
                  facing the sunrise and write the word “West” (W);

              (f)  return to the circle, then stop and face the direction of the Sun;

              (g) turn to your right, walk three steps, and write the word “South”
                  (S);

              (h) go back to the circle, again face the sunrise. Turn left, walk

                  three steps forward, and write the word “North.” (N);
              (i)  take a stick and draw straight lines from each word you have

                  written on the ground to the circle; and

              (j)  observe that drawing and copy it in your exercise book.



          The diagram drawn should resemble an additional sign. This diagram
          represents the earth’s Cardinal Directions, as shown in Figure 1.
