Introduction

This textbook, Geography and the Environment for Primary Schools
is written based on the Geography and the Environment syllabus
for primary education standards III-VI, issued by the Ministry of
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Education, Science and Technology in 2023. Some of the contents
in this book have been taken from the Social Studies textbooks
for Standard III, IV, and V, published in 2018, following the 2016

syllabus. This textbook contains four chapters: The concept of a
map, the Cardinal Directions, Drawing a simple map, and The uses
of maps. By learning the contents of this textbook, you will develop
the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for map drawing,
reading, and interpretation.

The content of each chapter is presented in the form of text, activities,
different maps and diagrams to enable you to develop the intended
competencies. Each chapter has sufficient exercises to test your
understanding of the specific themes. Therefore, you are advised
to do all the exercises and activities in this textbook, along with any

additional activities provided by the teacher to develop the intended
competencies.
