          FOR ONLINE READING ONLY

                       Introduction

                In this chapter, you will learn to compare, multiply and divide

                fractions with different denominators. You will also learn
                to multiply and divide fractions by whole numbers. The
                competencies developed will enable you to apply the concept
                of fractions in different contexts.

              Comparing fractions

              Fractions can be compared using various symbols. The equal
              sign (=), less than sign (<) and greater than sign (>) will be used
              to compare fractions in this aspect.

              Equivalent fractions

              Equivalent fractions are compared using the equal sign (=). Any
              fraction with the same value as the whole has a value of 1. For
              example,

               2  =  3  =  4  =  5  =  6  = 1.
               2    3    4    5    6

              Note: When a fraction is multiplied by 1, its value does not change.
