                                                   ×

Multiplication of three-digit numbers by a multiplier with up
           to two-digits

                  Example 1

                  × 217 4 =

              Solution Steps

                   217 1. 4 ×=7 28. Write 8 in the ones place. Regroup

× 4 20 ones into 2 tens. Shift 2 tens to the tens

                  868 place.

                            2. 4 × =10 40. Write 4 tens. Add tens: + 4 = 2 6.

Write 6 in the tens place.

                            3. 200 ×=4 800. Write 8 in the hundreds place.

                            4. Add the results from Step 1 to 3:
                                68 + 800 = 868

                                 ×
                                     =
             Therefore, 217 4 868.
