                Steps
The answer can be obtained through a horizontal arrangement
                as follows:

                1. Multiply 278 by 3 ones: 278 ×= 3 834.

                2. Multiply 278 by 1 tens 1: 278 × = 10 2780.

                3. Add the results from Steps 1 and 2: 834 + = 2780 3614.

                Therefore, 278 × 13 = 3614.

                     Example 3

                       × 624 = 35

                  Solution Steps

                           624 1. Multiply 624 by 5 ones:
                        × 35 624 ×=5 3120.

                          3120 2. Multiply 624 by 3 tens:
                      +18720 × 624 = 30 18720.

                         21840
                                          3. Add the results from Steps 1 and 2:
                                                    + 3120 = 18720 21840.

                 Therefore, 624 × =35 21,840.
