              Environmental hygiene
          FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Dirty environments are harmful to our health. Dirty places

attract insects like houseflies and mosquitoes that can spread
diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and malaria. Breathing in
polluted air can cause respiratory diseases. These diseases
make our bodies weak. To stay healthy and strong, we must

keep our surroundings clean. Figure 12 shows pupils cleaning
              the school environment.

Safety signs and important information in the environment

There are signs or symbols that guide us in our environment.

These signs can be words or pictures which give instructions to
              keep everyone safe.
