Advantages of tethering grazing system
(a) It requires less labour.
(b) Expensive fencing is not necessary.
(c) It allows good use of pasture because grazing is carefully controlled.
Challenges of tethering grazing system
(a) The animals may not be able to escape from predators if there is no person
looking after them always.
(b) The animals may not be able to obtain shelter from climatic extremes hence
they may suffer from stress.
(c) The system is not suitable for commercial farming as only limited number of
animals can be fed using this system.
Stall feeding system
This is a system of feeding where the animals are confined indoor and fed ad libitum
or restricted to a certain amount of feed per day, that is, restricted feeding. With
restricted feeding method, animals are fed a limited quantity of feed per day to
meet the optimal body requirement. With ad libitum feeding, the animal is allowed
to consume as much as it can take. It is also termed as full feeding. Ad libitum
feeding is done gradually to allow the animal to consume increasing amounts of
feeds until it leaves behind at least 15% of the amount that had been offered. Ad
libitum feeding is applied in fast growing animals like broilers and growing pigs.
Stall feeding is most common for non-ruminants like pigs and poultry. When stall
feeding is applied to ruminants it is termed as cut and carry system. It is practised in
