(e) Provide antibiotics for treating bacterial diseases if there is a risk of infection
or there are some symptoms of diseases.
(f) Provide vitamins and minerals to avoid nutrition disorders and anti-helminthic
for control of worms’ infestation (seek advice from livestock extension worker
of your area).
(g) You should avoid visitors to stop bringing/spreading bacteria and other disease
agents from outside into your flock.
(h) Use farm gears like gumboots, overalls, and dust capes to ensure maximum
biosecurity.
Activity 9.2
Perform the following tasks:
1. Use a poultry farm at your school or nearby poultry farm to identify the
following:
(a) The type of poultry that are kept at that farm.
(b) The poultry farming system used and reason(s) for choosing a particular
system.
2. By using your experience, name other systems of poultry farming that would be
used by the farmer according to types of birds that the farmer has, and give two
reasons for your answer.
3. Record the data and present them in class.
4. Share your observations in class for discussion.
