The bound opening: This is used as an
alternative of the faced slit opening but
it is only suitable for thin materials. It
is also a good choice for transparent
fabrics. The method of making this type
of opening is the same as that of making
a faced slit opening except on neatening,
where a bound opening requires a narrow
crossway binding instead of a facing.
If the opening is at the neck, the
binding continues around the neck
edge. The opening can be made
decorative using a fabric of contrasting
colours or a binding, which is cut
from a checked or a striped fabric.
Procedure for cutting crossway strips
(i) The fabric should be folded over
one corner in such a way that the
weft edge lies along the selvedge.
