Activity 2.1:

Simulation of the pipeline stages and movement of instruction in Computer
Memory and Cache using CPU Simulator

Aim: Chapter Two: Performance and optimisation of computer processor
To visualise and understand the pipeline stages and instruction movement in CPU,
RAM, and Cache Memory using a CPU Simulator.

Material:
Computer, CPU simulator software or Internet

Instructions:
Visualise the pipeline stages and the movement of instructions in Memory (RAM)
and Cache Memory
Step 1: Study the components of the CPU
Step 2: Create a program
To create a new program, click the "program" button, and enter the name
in the "Program Name" box (for this activity enter "CacheTest1"). Also
enter the "base address" in the "Base Address box" (You can enter any
number, or for this activity, enter "101") then click on the "ADD button".
The new program’s name will appear in the "Program List view"

Step 3: Add program instructions
(a) Enter instructions as they appear in the “CPU INSTRUCTION IN
MEMORY(RAM)” in the top left of the screenshot in Figure 2.2.
