(e) draw another straight line between the North and West sides,

After drawing the diagram, you will have eight directions. Those are
intercardinal directions.
Note: When locating or reading the intercardinal directions, you
should start with North or South. This is because these directions
are the basic points on a compass used for finding directions, and
they help you identify all other directions. Also, these direction are
the basic guidance for identifying the intercardinal directions, as
shown in Figure 5.
