Division of currency in shillings and cents

The Tanzania currency in shillings and cents can be divided by whole
numbers. The shillings are divided first followed by division of cents.

Note that, the relationship between shillings and cents must be
considered whenever conversion is needed.

Example 1

Steps Solution

1. Divide shillings 10 by 5: shs cts
shs 10 ÷= 5 shs 2. ) 5 10 50
Write in the shillings place. 2

2. Divide cents 50 by 5: 50 ÷= 5 cts 10. shs cts

Write 10 in the cents place. ) 5 10 50
2 10

Therefore, the answer is shs 2 and 10 cts.
