Most of tropical oil crops grow well in a wide range of temperatures and rainfall.
However, crops like sunflower, safflower and sesame prefer high temperature as
well as moderate to low rainfall. Due to this fact, they are considered as drought
tolerant. Likewise, most of oil crops grow well in wide range of soils with moderate
requirements of plant nutrients. Like other crops, oil crops are grown by adhering
to the general principles of producing crops from planting to harvesting and post-
harvest practices that you have already learnt.

            Activity 1.2
In groups, perform the following tasks:
            1. Find out the oil crops grown in your area and discuss the importance of at least
one oil crop, by comparing it to the same crop grown in and outside Tanzania.
Consider the products and uses of the crop.
            2. Identify the available entrepreneurial opportunities which you can utilise for
generating profitable income from that crop.
