Textiles and Garment Construction

           The facing is not a separate pattern piece.
           It is just an extension of the pattern. This
           type of facing is also interfaced  like a
           regular facing.

           Procedure for working on extended
           facings

             (i)  On the pattern, add extra paper to the
                edge.





                                                         (iv)  Add a notch at the top and bottom
                                                           such that you know where to fold it.













             (ii)  Draw in the width of the facing and
                cut off the excess paper.

                                                         Make a sample of an extended facing
                                                         that can be used on the front opening
                                                         of the bodice or shirt..


                                                       Binding

                                                       Binding  is  a  method  of  finishing  raw

             (iii)  Fold the facing into position and trim   edges, whereby, a strip of material  is
                the paper level at the top and bottom,   sewn on the edge and folded over the raw
                so it is the same shape as the garment.  edges in such a way that it is visible on
                                                       both sides of the garment or article.
