        FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
                    (b) Participate in formulating various feed rations for various classes of
                       pigs;

            2. Write a summary of what you learned from this activity in your portfolio.
            3. Adopt and apply appropriate feed formulation skills in the school/family

            Exercise7.5

            1. Define the following terms as used in pig feeding:
                 (a) Feed;
                 (b) Feed formulation; and

                 (c) Balanced ration.
            2. Why it is important to feed a pregnant sow a balanced ration?
            3.  In a tabular form:

                 (a) Identify different types of feed materials used in feed ration formulation;
                 (b) For each identified feed material in 1 (a):
                    (i) outline the primary nutrient contained in the feed.

                    (ii) suggest one alternative feed source.

            Breeding practices

            Good breeding practices help produce healthy piglets and ensure the next
            generation is strong. A healthy pig with good traits (like fast growth or strong
            immunity) should be chosen for breeding. The pregnant sows (mother pigs)
            should be cared for by providing proper food and a comfortable place to give
            birth. Effective management of the breeding herd, which includes breeding
            boars and gilts, is crucial for ensuring the productivity and sustainability of pig
            production on the farm.
