1. Look for relevant content: Focus on the relevance of the content
provided by the student. Award marks for information that directly

2. Check for correct calculations: For questions involving
calculations, check the student’s computation and ensure that they
have applied the correct formulas and methods. Award marks for
each stage of calculations.
3. Pay attention to presentation: Consider the presentation of the
answers. Encourage students to use proper accounting formats,
financial standards, headings, and labels for different sections.
Award marks for well-organised and clearly presented work.
4. Partial credit: In some cases, students may make minor errors or miss
a step in their calculations but demonstrate a good understanding
of the concept and logical of account items. Consider giving partial
credit for such instances.
5. Watch for common mistakes: Be aware of common accounting
errors, such as transposition errors, incorrect treatment of certain
transactions, or misunderstanding accounting principles. Make
positive response on error(s) made by student.
6. Review journal entries: If the question involves journal entries,
check that the debits and credits are correctly recorded, and the
accounting equation remains balanced.
7. Check for comprehension of accounting concepts: Ensure that
students demonstrate a clear understanding of the underlying
accounting principles and concepts related to the question.
