Activity 4.1
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
This activity aims to enable students to explore the mandates,
functions, and recent activities of government and non-government
agencies relating to supporting businesses in Tanzania.
Guidance on Activity 4.1
(a) Guide every student to use any electronic devices such as
computers and tablets to collect information on three (3)
government and two (2) non-government agencies responsible
for regulating and supporting medium-sized businesses in terms
of their mandates, functions, and recent activities in Tanzania.
(b) Use any method to have students present their answers.
(c) Guide students to visit any of the agencies identified in part (a)
and interact with the staff, and observe their operations.
(d) Guide every student to write a report on the contribution of
the agency visited in supporting well-being of medium-sized
businesses in Tanzania.
Possible answers for Exercise 4.1
1. The primary objective of the Tanzania Trade Development
Authority (TanTrade), and its contribution to the development
of medium-sized businesses in Tanzania is explained in the
student’s textbook.
2. Some of the challenges that medium-sized businesses face while
conducting their activities are limited financial accessibility,
lack of business management skills, and limited access to
the market. Meanwhile, support from the government, and
collaboration with other businesses locally and internationally
are some opportunities that medium-sized businesses have
while conducting their activities.
