This activity aims to develop the skills of students in establishing
a start-up based on their business ideas.

Guidance in Activity 1.2
(a) Guide the students in manageable groups to read the case,
discuss it, and answer questions 1 to 4.
(b) Guide the students individually to develop a business start-
up idea as shown in question 5.
(c) Use an appropriate method to have students present their
answers.

Possible answers
1. Micaela was inspired by many households relying on candles
and kerosene lamps for lighting in rural areas outside Dar es
Salaam.
2. Micaela had a challenge of capital to initiate the business.
However, she overcame it by seeking financial support from
various stakeholders. Fortunately the angel investors and other
partners supported the business financially.
3. She wrote a business plan and circulated it to potential
stakeholders for funding.

Skills lab activity

Guide the students in manageable groups to discuss the impact of
the business environment on the business operations.
