Introduction
In this chapter, students will learn about the concept of business
unit, and the forms of business units according to size ownership
structure. The competences developed will enable students to
establish and operate a company, franchise, joint venture, and
co-operative.

(a) Guide the students to think-ink-pair-share about
operating a business of any form.
(b) Link the students’ responses with the intended
competences to be developed.
The concept of business unit
Guide the students in manageable groups to explain the meaning of
business units, and size classification.
Learning resources
Business and economic newspapers or brochures with themes about
business units, Tanzania SME Development Policy of 2003, Business
Studies for Advanced Secondary Schools Form V, and Commerce for
Ordinary Secondary Schools Form IV textbooks, and online or offline
related resources.
