The two words in bold in the first stanza of the poem form a minimal pair. The
concept of minimal pairs is an important aspect of phonetics and phonology. It
refers to pairs of words that differ in meaning by only one sound or phoneme in

the same position. In other words, minimal pairs are pairs of words that share the
same sounds except for one phoneme, which, when changed, leads to a different
meaning.
