collection of skills and experiences. Such a collection builds performer’s abilities
on varied aspects to enable the best delivery on every performance. Every performer
grows through a different journey of experience. Therefore, fundamental skills
that every performer supposes to acquire are similar. Performers are equipped with
a variety of additional skills to appear exceptional. Possessing basic skills gives
performers benefit conceivable towards being successful on set and career. The
skills are essential for achieving the performing purpose on one hand and inciting
intended emotions on the other. The skills of a performer are built on basic and
foundational tools which are voice, body and mind. Therefore, performers should
be trained for skills of using voice, body and mind effectively.
Voice: Performers use voice to express their innermost thoughts through dialogue
and monologue. Effective use of voice not only communicates the message but
also raises audience’s interests to follow the performance and holds their attention
throughout the performance. The performer should strive to possess a voice
available to express a wide range of information weaved in the performance.
Performers need to go through a rigorous training to manage ways of effectively
using voice in their careers. Voice is by itself a carrier of emotions. It conveys
a variety of emotions such as love, hate, anger, joy, fear, indifference and
compassion, alike. It is the voice whether in its audible state or silence that the
performer uses to tell a story. Voice accompanies the performer’s body to describe
and detail action on stage, radio or screen. At any accompaniment, voice must be
in harmony with the body or atmosphere that sync with character’s action except
when intentionally produced to suggest irony or joke.
