nature of activities of people working in urban areas and their demand for
entertainment.

Arena stage
This is the oldest stage in human history. It is also known as theatre in the
round. It is named so because of the way the audience’s seats and performance
areas are located. The arena stage is the stage that early human beings used for
performances. In the arena stage of ancient times, the performance normally
took place at the centre while surrounded by the audience. Figure 3.9 shows the
ancient arena stage.
