Procedure

              1.  Place a plastic cup filled with water on the table.

              2.  Take the thermometer and immerse it in the water, holding

                    it from above as shown in Figure 5.

              3.  Read the temperature. Make sure you get help reading the
                    water temperature if needed. Record the temperature.


              4.  Place the  cup of  water  in the  freezer.  Measure the
                    temperature of the water every 10 minutes.  Continue
                    measuring the temperature until ice starts to form. Record

                    the observations.

              5.  Compare the temperature of the water in its solid state to
                    its liquid state.


              Results

              When the temperature of water  drops  to 0 °C (32  °F), the

              water begins to freeze. Therefore, water freezes at a specific
              temperature known as the freezing point. The freezing point,
