Common qualities shared by man and woman
Man and woman are all created by God and share common features. Both have

intellect, free will, consciousness, will power, creativity and ability to sustain the
creation. Furthermore, both can speak, and were all created in the image and likeness
            of God (Genesis 1:26-27).

God’s attributes in the creation stories
The two accounts of creation in the book of Genesis provide numerous qualities
attributed to God, the list includes: God is creator; eternal and everlasting meaning
that He has neither beginning nor end. Furthermore, God is holy, divine, pure and
perfect. Additionally, God is loving; good and omnipotent or Almighty. Moreover,

God is Omniscient or ‘all knowing’ and is Omnipresent i.e. God is present everywhere.
Genesis also defines God as: Truth, unchangeable, gracious, and infinite meaning

that God is limitless or endless in space, extent, or size.

Based on the creation accounts we can summarise the following key teachings: (a)
God is the origin of everything, (b) God created man and woman, (c) Man has the
duty to take care of God’s creation, (d) Human beings are social beings, (e) Man and
woman are equally accountable before God, (f) Man and woman are equal before
God, (g) Human life is God-given, sacred; therefore, it must be protected.

            Creation of the woman
The second account of creation (Genesis 2) maintains that the Woman (Eve) was
created after the creation of man. “Then the Lord God said it is not good that man
should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18). So, the Lord

God caused a deep sleep upon Adam and took off one of his ribs and used it to form a
woman, and brought her to Adam. Biblically, this occasion became the foundation of
love and union between man and woman, through which the families of people are
established and sustained. Adam said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of
my flesh; she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man. Therefore, a
man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife and they become one flesh.
The man and woman were both naked, but they were not ashamed” (Genesis 2:21-25).
