sacrifice to God, who accepts his offering and promises: “never again will I destroy
all living creatures.” (Gen 8:21). God blessed Noah to “be fruitful and multiply” and
places a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant with Noah and his descendants.

From the story of the flood, we learn that: The Lord punished creation by flood because
human wickedness was so much. We learn too that God punished the wicked because
        FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
He is God of justice. God is merciful and saves those who are faithful to Him. God
loves His creation for He saved those who were righteous. God’s punishment is just,
for God intended other people to learn from it.

Noah was saved by God because, he was righteous and blameless among the people
of his time, and walked faithfully with God. Noah had three sons namely Shem, Ham
          and Japheth.

          Activity 3.7

Use library and internet sources, and read Genesis 6: 9-9:17, then attempt the following
          questions:
          1. Who was Noah?
          2. How did the flood occur?

            Exercise 3.3

          1. Why did God flood the world?
          2. Why did God promise Noah that He would never again punish the world by the
             waters?

          3. Mention the advantages of living a righteous life like Noah.

          The covenant of Noah
A covenant in Hebrew ‘berit’ is a solemn and serious agreement between two parts.
          This can be between man and man or between one community and another community;
but it can also be between God and man, or between God and a group of people
(community). The covenant between God and man gives God’s blessings. The
covenant between Noah and God (Noahic covenant) therefore was an agreement
between God and Noah. God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them “Be fruitful
and multiply and fill the earth.” God established a covenant with Noah. God set his
rainbow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between God and Noah.

In this chapter, God’s blessings, instructions, and promises unfold a fresh chapter for
humanity and all creation. The rainbow’s symbol serves as an everlasting reminder
