When Sarah heard this, she laughed to herself saying, “After I have grown old and
my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?” But the guest confirmed again that Sarah
shall have a son. In this story, God became a guest of human beings. This divine visit
shows how the covenant is a sign of God’s love for human beings.

Abraham pleading for Sodom

The three men set out from there. Abraham escorted them, and they went away. The
Lord said how great is the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah, and how very great
is their sin. The Lord revealed to Abraham His decision to go to Sodom to see if what

He heard about the sinfulness of its inhabitants was true. So, the men turned from
there and went to Sodom. Abraham was worried about his nephew, Lot, who was
living in Sodom. Abraham began to intercede so that God might spare the life of the
just and Lot. Figure 4.5 portrays Abraham pleading for Sodom.

Punishment for homosexuality

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening and Lot was sitting at the gateway of
Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and bowed down with his face to
the ground. Lot said to the two angels, “Please, my lords, turn aside to your servant’s
house and spend the night and wash your feet then you may rise up early and go on
