God’s protection and promises to Isaac
During the time of famine, Isaac went to Abimelech, King of Gerar. The Lord appeared
to Isaac at Gerar and told him not to go to Egypt but rather settle in the land in which
He could instruct him. The Lord made some promises to Isaac. Including, being with
him. Furthermore, God promised Isaac that He would bless him, give all the land to
him and to his descendants, and fulfill the oath He promised to Abraham. Besides, God
promised to multiply his descendants as the stars of heaven. Finally, He assured Isaac
that because of him, all nations would be blessed.

Isaac stayed at Gerar. When the men of Gerar asked about his wife, he said that she
was his sister. He said so because of the fear of being killed by the men of Gerar.
After a long time, king Abimelech discovered that Rebekah was Isaac’s wife. So,
Abimelech warned the people of Gerar saying, “Whoever touches this man or his
wife shall be put to death” (Genesis 26:11).
