Activity 3.8
Construct a descending D major scale with key signature on a treble staff.
Note that, a musical scale can be written with or without a key signature. When
writing a scale with key signature, sharps or flats appear at the beginning of the
staff as shown in figures 3.30, 3.31 and 3.32. However, when writing a scale
without key signature, sharps or flats do not appear at the beginning of the staff.
Instead, they are added to the relevant note within the scale, as shown in figures
3.24, 3.26 and 3.28.
Exercise 3.3
Answer the following questions:
1. In the following staff, write crotchet notes to represent the letters. The first
note has been done as an example. Use the notes of any pitch.
2. In the following staff, observe whether the distance between the notes is tone
or semitone, then answer questions (a) to (e).
Mention the distance from note:
(a) 1 to 2 (c) 5 to 6 (e) 9 to 10
(b) 3 to 4 (d) 7 to 8
