(c) Key signature for F major scale
In the F major scale, there is only one flat on note B. When writing a key signa-
ture for F major scale, a flat sign will be placed at the beginning of the staff on the
line for note B. This indicates every note B to be flat instead of putting flat signs
to each B note in the staff. The flat sign at the beginning of the staff on the line
for note B also stands as a key signature for F major scale, as shown in figures
3.31 (a) and (b).

Activity 3.7
Construct a descending F major scale with key signature on a bass staff.
(d) Key signature for D major scale
In the D major scale, there are two sharps on notes F and C. When writing a key
signature for D major scale, sharp signs are placed at the beginning of the staff on
the lines for notes F and C. This indicates every note F and C to be sharp instead
of putting sharp signs to each F and C note in the staff. The sharp signs at the
beginning of the staff on the line for notes F and C also stands as a key signature
for D major scale. Note that, the arrangement of sharp signs on the staff should
follow the order of D major scale; that is, D E F♯ G A B C♯ D. Since F♯ begins
before C♯, then a sharp sign for note F will be placed before a sharp sign for note
C. See the examples as shown in figures 3.32 (a) and (b).
