(a) Key signature for C major scale
Since there is no any sharp or flat in the C major scale, no sharp or flat sign is
placed at the beginning of the staff as a key signature. See the examples shown in
figures 3.29 (a) and (b).

(b) Key signature for G major scale
In the G major scale, there is only one sharp on note F. When writing a key
signature for G major scale, a sharp sign is placed at the beginning of the staff on
the line for note F. This indicates every note F to be sharp instead of putting sharp
signs to each F note in the staff. The sharp sign at the beginning of the staff on the
line for note F also stands as a key signature for G major scale. See the examples
shown in figures 3.30 (a) and (b).
